Abdominoplasty

Stretch marks, loose skin, excess fat, abdominal bulge – all consequences of pregnancy, weight loss and gain, gravity, genetics and aging.

Abdominoplasty is an abdominal contouring procedure that rejuvenates the tummy by removing excess skin and fat and tightens the skin and muscles of the abdomen. The procedure is performed by making an incision with a gentle curve from hip to hip just above the pubic bone. The incision is made low so that it will be covered by most garments. The excess skin is removed. The abdominal muscles are tightened vertically from the xyphoid (center of rib cage below sternal bone) to the pubis. The incision is closed and the belly button is reshaped and rejuvenated. The incisions are closed with internal, dissolving sutures to provide optimum healing. The procedure is performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. It is usually recommended to take 2-3weeks off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation.

Liposuction

Most men and women have “trouble spots” that don’t completely respond to diet and exercise. These areas respond very well to liposuction contouring.

Liposuction is a very commonly performed procedure by Dr. Adamson in Sarasota for body contouring. Through multiple small puncture incisions the area to be treated is injected with a wetting solution (tumescent technique). This solution helps create smooth contouring during the liposuction procedure, while decreasing bleeding. The solution also contains local anesthesia to increase comfort. After injecting the tumescent solution Dr. Adamson uses a small liposuction cannula to perform the liposuction / liposculpture in a selective manner to create the desired new body contours. The abdomen, arms, thighs, “love handles”, waist, and hips are the most commonly treated areas. The neck and even the ankles can be treated in appropriate candidates.

The best candidates for liposuction are people who have areas of fatty deposits with overlying good skin elasticity and who are in good general health.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. It is usually recommended to take 1-2 week off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation.

Buttock Augmentation

Liposuction of Waist and Buttock Augmentation with Fat Grafts

Full, round buttocks are beautiful. Dr Adamson performs buttock augmentation with fat grafts (Brazilian Butt Lift) and silicone buttock implants.

The first step in buttock augmentation with fat grafts is to harvest the fat grafts using liposuction techniques. The fat is rinsed to purify the fat grafts. The purified fat grafts are then carefully injected with a syringe in multiple layers into the buttock to achieve the desired shape and contour. Ideal candidates are obviously those who have some fat deposits of the thighs, abdomen and/or waist that can be used as a donor site for the fat graft harvesting.

Usually 70 – 80 % of the fat will be absorbed by the body over several months, while the rest of the 20-30% of the grafts are expected to remain long-term. Dr. Adamson usually overgrafts the area to be treated to compensate for the expected volume of absorption. Additional treatment may be required.

Buttock augmentation with silicone buttock implants is preferable in those leaner individuals who want a more shapely figure, but do not have donor sites for harvesting fat grafts. The silicone implant is placed into the buttock under the fascia (layer of tissue covering the muscle) or under the muscle depending upon your anatomy and goals for augmentation. The access incision is concealed in the gluteal cleft between the buttocks.

The procedures are performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. It is usually recommended to take 2-3 weeks off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation. Avoid or minimize sitting for several weeks.

Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

Loose, hanging upper arm skin is troublesome. Wardrobe problems, poor aesthetics, and flapping of the excess skin when waving goodbye are frequent complaints by those with this common problem. Brachioplasty or upper arm lift is the surgical solution to this issue. Dr. Adamson removes the excess skin along the inner aspect of the arm and tightens the upper arm circumferentially. The scar, in most cases, extends from the armpit to the elbow on the inner aspect of the arm, which helps to minimize the visibility of the scar. Additional liposuction contouring of the arms is often performed.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. It is usually recommended to take 1-2 week off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation.

Lower Body Lift

Circumferential laxity and sagging of the stomach, waist and lower back is very common following massive weight loss from bariatric surgery (gastric bypass). The lower body lift or circumferential body lift removes the extra skin along the waistline circumferentially, tightens the abdominal wall and lifts the lateral thighs and buttocks. Liposuction is also frequently performed for contouring of the thighs and trunk.

The ideal candidate is a person who has circumferential sagging skin and who has maintained their weight loss for a prolonged period of time. The person also should be in good health.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. Following surgery, the patient stays in the nursing facility for 3-5 days before going home. It is usually recommended to take 3-4 weeks off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation.

Inner Thigh Lift

Inner thigh laxity and sagging can be caused by weight loss, gravity, time and sun damage. The surgical treatment is an inner thigh lift where the excess skin is removed and the inner thigh is lifted and tightened leaving an incision in the inner thigh crease / groin. Liposuction contouring is often performed by Dr. Adamson concurrently.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. It is usually recommended to take 2-3 weeks off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation. Avoid or minime sitting for several weeks.

Buttock Lift

Sagging seat? A buttock lift will tighten, elevate and re-shape the buttocks. The procedure is performed through a “gull-wing” shaped incision at the posterior waist-line. The excess skin is removed and the buttock is elevated and tightened. Many patients also benefit from simultaneous buttock augmentation with fat grafts or silicone gluteal implants.

The procedure is performed as an outpatient in the accredited surgery center under general anesthesia performed by the anesthesia team. It is usually recommended to take 2-3 weeks off of work to recover, depending upon your occupation. Avoid or minimize sitting for several weeks.

Labiaplasty (Vaginal Rejuvenation)

warning

Childbearing often creates changes of the female anatomy. The appearance can be improved with a labiaplasty. The labia minora – inner labia – can be reduced in size and shape. The labia majora – outer labia – often get smaller with time. They can be augmented with fat grafting techniques. Downtime is minimal.

Dr. Adamson offers plastic surgery services to patients throughout Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton and Venice.
